This page explains what happens to your text and your data when you use Character Count.

Counting your text

The character counter, word counter, sentence counter, and platform limit checklist all run entirely in your browser. The text you paste for counting is never sent to any server. It stays on your device and disappears when you close or refresh the page.

The Make it fit feature

Make it fit is different. When you use this feature, the text in the box and the target character count you set are sent from your browser to our server, which forwards them to OpenAI, a third party AI provider, in order to generate a shortened or expanded version of your text. The result is sent back and shown to you.

We do not store the text you submit through Make it fit on our own servers or in any database. It passes through briefly to process your request and is not logged or saved by us afterward. OpenAI processes this text according to its own privacy policy, which you can read at openai.com/policies/privacy-policy. Do not paste sensitive personal information, passwords, or confidential material into the Make it fit feature.

Local storage

Your choice of light or dark theme is saved in your browser's local storage so the site remembers your preference on your next visit. This information stays on your device and is never sent to us or to any third party.

Cookies and advertising

This site may show ads served by Google and its partners, including Google AdSense. Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or by visiting aboutads.info to opt out of third party vendor cookies used for personalized advertising.

Analytics

Character Count does not currently use any analytics or tracking scripts beyond what is described above. If that changes, this page will be updated.

Children's privacy

This site is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

This policy may be updated from time to time as the tool changes. Check back here for the latest version.
